Commuter Program: Bus, Bike, and Hike!

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is introducing an incentive program for the UIUC faculty and staff members who choose an active mode of transportation to commute to and from work. The pilot for this "Bus, Bike, and Hike" commuter incentive program will begin in Spring 2023!

This pilot program in FY23 will be available to 15 participants only, while we work through the logistics.

The Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) 2020 has an objective to reduce driving on campus and to reduce single-occupancy vehicles usage by faculty and staff on campus. iCAP 2020 Objective 3.4.1 is to "Develop a Commuter Program (Bus, Bike, and Hike) for faculty and staff. Register 100 people by FY24 and 500 people by FY30." 

The "Commuter Program: Bus, Bike, and Hike!" incentive program will encourage university faculty and staff members to adopt a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle.

How to register for the "Commuter Program: Bus, Bike, and Hike!"

Individuals interested in the program should complete the online form by clicking on the "Register Here" button below or by going to go.fs.illinois.edu/CommuterProgram. Once a form is submitted, you will receive confirmation and follow-up messaging from F&S staff regarding participation status and next steps.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this program, the user

• Must be a current full-or-part time faculty, full-or-part time staff, or temporary employees
• Must not have a current parking permit, or must relinquish your current parking permit to enroll
• Must use public transit, bicycle, walking, or a non single-occupancy motorized vehicle, or other form of active mode of transportation to commute to and from work.

Incentives available in FY23

The following benefits will be available during the program’s pilot phase during fiscal year 2023:

• Coupon codes to park in Lot B4 or Lot E14 (only available to those who relinquish their parking permit)
• $20 credit per semester to use Veo bicycles
• Enter a raffle to win a free ZipCar membership (5 free memberships prizes in a year) - $25 credit
• Illini Union ‒ Rec Room rewards
  • Free second hour of pool/snooker once per month, or
  • Free bowling shoes rental once per month
