About Capital Programs
The Capital Programs Division directs the programming, design, and construction of capital construction projects more than $250,000 total project budget at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This includes the development of project scopes, budgets, and schedules, and procurement of all construction-related services for new buildings, additions or modifications to our existing buildings, and associated infrastructure in support of the mission of the university. All LEED Certified Building projects are delivered through Capital Programs, as are feasibility studies and projects requiring Professional Services Consultants.
The Project Planning and Project Management departments work with campus customers to manage the overall capital project delivery process. This collaborative effort includes developing solutions for their facilities that meet programmatic needs, securing appropriate campus and university approvals, employing all professional service consultants for the design of projects and contractors for construction, and overseeing project execution.
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is involved whenever alterations to the physical fabric of the campus are considered, including reviews of new buildings, additions, renovations, and other physical changes to campus.
The University Landscape Architect oversees site development to support our mission and balance sustainability, aesthetics, and attracting prospective students and donors. Building decommissioning is also under the University Landscape Architect’s responsibilities.
The Deferred Maintenance and Classroom Improvement Programs addresses backlogged building deficiencies and assists with completing facility condition assessments that serve to address similar priorities for new facilities and programmatic renovations.
Historic Preservation is a critical part of managing assets on campus, and the university is fortunate to be the home of many historically significant structures. The campus routinely works with campus stakeholders and state offices to advocate for rehabilitation and new construction that respects the integrity of historic structures.
