On Monday at the Illini vs. Monmouth basketball game, F&S, in partnership with Illinois Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment, and Coca-Cola, encouraged fans in attendance to recycle concessions containers used at State Farm Center. The game coincided with the annual observation of America Recycles Day to educate about the importance of nationwide recycling. Because of the efforts of student volunteers and fans, 280 pounds of recyclable material was diverted from the landfill, or approximately 11 percent of the event's waste stream.
