Starting Thursday, September 1, Transportation & Automotive Services (TAS) will add a 4-cents-per-mile fuel surcharge to Car Pool rentals because of the increased cost of unleaded gasoline. Each month, TAS will evaluate market conditions and revise the surcharge as necessary, including decreasing the initial amount should prices drop. Over the last two years, TAS was able to offset repeated wholesale price increases through the existing rate structure. However, the fuel market has continued to set all-time highs and has remained at record levels, rising more than 180 percent from January 2021 to July 2022.
This adjustment will help TAS maintain the regular fuel, maintenance, and service operations for the over 200 available vehicles on campus. The surcharge amount was developed as a part of a comprehensive fuel and usage analysis of the entire Car Pool fleet completed this year.
