People returning to their offices after being away from campus for a long period of time during the COVID-19 pandemic may notice a musty smell in their spaces. This experience is similar to what many of us discover in our homes after returning from an extended vacation. It is normal for air to have a slight odor in rooms that have not been accessed often.
To alleviate odors in offices, please take the following recommended steps:
- Leave doors open when practical
- Use a portable fan to help circulate air
- Open windows while the room is occupied and if the weather allows*
*Consistent with campus energy conservation strategies to reduce building energy demand
