Reporting Temperature Control-Related Items in Campus Spaces

Temperature Control

F&S asks individuals currently on campus or returning to university facilities to evaluate their offices, shared spaces, laboratories, and common areas as soon as possible to identify any temperature control–related items needing attention. As more students, faculty, and staff return to on-campus operations in August, a higher volume of service requests about hot/cold issues and overall HVAC performance are expected.

This summer, F&S has continued to review the equipment in campus facilities. Wherever possible, filters are being upgraded to MERV-13, and mechanical systems are bringing in outside air to enhance indoor air quality. Crews are implementing the recommendations and following the best practices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) regarding the operation of HVAC systems during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please contact the F&S Energy Management Control Center fandsenergycomm@illinois.edu, 217-244-3783, for temperature control inquiries. General HVAC questions or requests to review a space should be sent to covid19fsconsulting@illinois.edu.

Thanks for your assistance with monitoring thermostats and airflow to help protect the well-being of others while maintaining occupant comfort in campus buildings.
