Happy to Stop

Apr 14, 2021

Chris Newman-Granadino, a laborer-electrician at F&S, was returning to the Physical Plant Services Building (PPSB) at the end of a shift on April 8, like at the end of many other days in her 9 years with the university. Then, she would see something she didn’t expect.900x600 Website (7)

Newman-Granadino saw a student who appeared to be in distress. She safely pulled over and saw that the student was bleeding near a wrecked skateboard. Newman-Granadino immediately called 911, stayed on-site, and assisted until the fire department arrived. “I was happy to stop and provide aid,” she said. “Anyone would have stopped to assist.”

Greg Moen, supervisor of building craftspeople, believes Newman-Granadino deserves more credit: “As we presented her with a Merit Mug for going above and beyond to help a student in need, she said everyone would have stopped to assist. I disagree. Many folks maybe focused on the task at hand, not wanting to make themselves late, or just not want to get involved. We all have jobs to do, one being the stewards of campus buildings, but it is reassuring to know our F&S employees out and about every day take the initiative to assist the campus community as a whole and make it a priority to help those in need. It shows how much she cares for other people.”

Chris, job well done!
