Leadership Transition in Safety and Compliance

Mar 24, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

I want to inform you of a leadership transition in the Safety and Compliance division.

Maureen Banks, director of Safety and Compliance, will retire from F&S on Wednesday, June 30. Therefore, effective immediately, Jeremy Neighbors will serve as acting director and work closely with Maureen throughout this period to ensure a consistent continuation of environmental and workplace safety and health services on campus.

Jeremy started with our organization in 2008 after six years in civil and environmental consulting in the private sector. At F&S, he has held multiple positions, most recently as the associate director for Safety and Compliance, Occupational Safety & Health. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing occupational safety and health management programs and policies, including developing and providing various consultation and training resources.

He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, as well as a Certified Safety Professional with licenses and certifications for asbestos, lead, and hazardous waste operations and emergency response. Jeremy holds a bachelor’s degree from the U of I in civil engineering and a master’s of business administration from the University of Illinois Springfield.

Both Maureen and Jeremy’s contributions have helped F&S to remain focused on achieving our strategic goals of creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace that protects people in learning, discovery, office, and outdoor spaces at the university.

Please join me in congratulating Jeremy on his new role and expressing sincere gratitude to Maureen for her more than 32 years of outstanding dedication and service to UIUC.

Cordially,

Dr. Mohamed Attalla, MBA, P.Eng.
Executive Director, Facilities & Services
