Five-Year UIUC Asset Management Plan

Mar 23, 2021

The F&S Asset Management Plan, 2021–2025, proposes a comprehensive five-year approach for capital projects, deferred maintenance, and extensive equipment repair and replacement to care for the nearly 24 million gross square feet of state-supported building space on the Urbana campus. The plan relies on facility condition assessments and specific project selection strategies to prioritize preventive maintenance and improvement work that maximize their positive impact on the teaching and research spaces for the largest number of students and faculty.

Asset Management PlanWhile the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced current resources to address the existing deferred maintenance backlog, the plan details the available and future opportunities to proactively uphold and enhance the campus-built environment while returning the greatest value.

The university has made tremendous advancements through complete building renovations and ongoing programs, such as the Academic Facilities Maintenance Fund Assessment (AFMFA), and additional deferred maintenance initiatives with assistance from the Office of the Provost, to renew aging infrastructure and direct funding to target significant upcoming life-cycle cost needs.

The plan aims to extend these efforts through a set of recommendations to update facility condition assessments, streamline reporting processes, promote campuswide partnerships, and seek additional state budget requests to expand and expedite projects.
