St. Mary’s Road Closure Between Neil Street and Oak Street – Starting Monday

Mar 11, 2021

Starting Monday, March 15, St. Mary’s Road between Neil Street and Oak Street will be closed for comprehensive road and sidewalk improvements until mid-August. Please be aware that with this closure, Oak Street will be northbound traffic only at the intersection of St. Mary’s Road. Bicyclists and motorists are encouraged to use nearby alternate routes during this period on Kirby Avenue and First Street. To view project maps, including reroutes, see the approved closure form.

In addition to pavement resurfacing and storm sewer upgrades, this project will include a new sidewalk and lighting along the north side of St. Mary’s Road, as well as a new pedestrian crossing on Neil Street.

NOTE: Because of the temporary fueling procedure adjustments at Garage and Car Pool (GACP), along with changes to Waste Transfer Station vehicle access on the north side of that facility, please use caution and slow down when traveling around those buildings. A four-way stop will be added in the parking lot area between Stores & Receiving and GACP to help control traffic flow.

For questions, contact Transportation Demand Management Coordinator Stacey DeLorenzo sdeloren@illinois.edu, 217-300-1750. The project is a cooperative effort between the City of Champaign and the university.
