Boneyard Creek Community Day 2019

Mar 14, 2019

BCCD 2019 Press Release PhotoBoneyard Creek Community Day engages the community in awareness and responsibility of naturalizing and sustaining our urban waterways through organized litter clean up, education and removal of invasive species to restore natural habitat and showcase the amenity value of a healthy ecosystem.

Individuals, families, and community groups can join us on April 13th to clean up litter from sites all over our community. The Boneyard Creek Community Day event is possible because of our many community volunteers and supporting agencies. Volunteers clean up litter and remove non-native invasive species of plants from areas all over Champaign, Urbana and Savoy. Work sites vary from those suitable for younger children to more challenging sites.

Volunteers will enjoy lunch, music, and educational displays at Scott Park following the clean-up.

Boneyard Creek Community Day is a way to celebrate and protect our lakes and streams by engaging volunteers to pitch in and clean. Litter looks bad and leads to pollution and attract more litter. It clogs storm drains causing local flooding and ends up in receiving streams harming aquatic life. This event helps remind us all to be responsible citizens and stewards of our environment.

Registration is easy at https://champaignparks.com/bccd/
