Repair Work Underway on Parking Structures C7 and C10
CHAMPAIGN, IL – Masonry work to repair facades on Parking Structures C7 (517 E. John Street) and C10 (812 S. Fifth Street) started this morning. Weather permitting, both facilities are expected to reopen Monday, August 15 while exterior work continues on both facilities.
C7 and C10 repairs will occur simultaneously, addressing vehicle and pedestrian entrances first to allow university permit holders back into the facilities before the start of the fall semester.
The project will utilize a mechanical anchor system to retrofit portions of the facade. This method of drilling in heavy-duty steel anchors, at defined spacings, will strengthen the support for existing and new masonry sections. Select areas of the brick facade will also be reconstructed. Substantial completion is anticipated by the end of September.
C7 was closed Sunday, July 10 after a portion of facade on the building’s south side fell. Subsequent evaluations of the masonry on structures C7 and C10 indicated the need for immediate repairs. C10 was closed Thursday, July 21.
Crews from Otto Baum Company, Inc. (Morton) will work to accelerate the timeline and minimize inconveniences to students, faculty, and staff throughout the project.
