Peace Memorial Installation at Lincoln Hall

May 29, 2015

CHAMPAIGN, IL (May 28) The “Peace Memorial” will return to Lincoln Hall’s south courtyard on Friday, May 29. The installation process, which will include the lifting of the sculpture above the roof of the facility and lowering by crane, is anticipated to begin between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The memorial was commissioned in 1968 by the University of Illinois Classes of 1918 and 1919 to mark the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of World War I, in memory to their classmates and others who fought in subsequent wars. The sculpture, created by university landscape architect Donald J. Molnar, was moved into storage prior to the Lincoln Hall renovation that started in 2010.

The crane location will be the parking lot between Gregory Hall and Lincoln Hall.
The red line on the diagram indicates the proposed lift path.
