Winter Storm Watch and Campus Preparations

Jan 13, 2017

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Champaign County and surrounding areas beginning late Friday evening through Sunday morning.

Wintery precipitation with the potential for several periods of sleet and ice accumulation (.10”) during the weekend could create hazardous travel conditions, especially in untreated areas. Please exercise caution when traveling on campus as sidewalks, pathways, parking lots, and building entrances and ramps may become slippery.

Facilities & Services (F&S) crews have started brine and salt pretreatment applications, but the potential for ice reformation will exist throughout the weekend due to variable weather conditions and forecasted below-freezing temperatures.

If you have questions about snow/ice removal operations or to report persistent locations, contact the F&S Service Office, 333-0340. More information regarding this priority work is available at: http://www.fs.illinois.edu/services/maintenance/snow-removal.

Thank you for your assistance as F&S staff help keep the campus open and accessible to students, faculty, and staff.
