Facilities & Services Utilities & Energy Services Division, in conjunction with City of Urbana, City of Champaign, and Village of Savoy fire departments will simulate an oil spill from storage tanks (located northwest of the corner of St. Mary's Road and South Oak Street) to the creeks of the Embarras River Thursday, October 27 starting at 9:00 a.m.
The exercise is required annually by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and satisfies Abbott Power Plant’s Facility Response Plan (FRP) requirements. Included in the FRP is protocol requiring an available team to respond to spills 24/7.
